Trinity School of Medicine is an opportunity, not just for its students, but for the US and Canada. By educating future physicians in the science of medicine while nurturing their caring instincts, we achieve our goal of improving access to quality healthcare.
Our approach to education is designed around the success of our students, in school and as physicians. We heavily integrate clinical experience from day one of the basic science terms at our affiliated teaching hospital. We offer small class sizes (25, not 250), with experienced and supportive faculty, and we always, always focus on patient-centric medicine.

Why Trinity School of Medicine?
Among the Fastest Growing, as the Youngest Medical School in the Caribbean to be Accredited by CAAM-HP as mandated by USA’s NCFMEA. 100s of Graduates practicing all over USA and Canada
Trinity is an academic institution with the same drive its students show towards their own futures.

The school opened in 2008 with a goal of providing greater opportunity to qualified medical students that didn't find the right fit in the US and Canadian systems. Taking every opportunity to grow and evolve the already proven method of early clinical experience, extensive USMLE preparation, and a culture of support, the school's reach and its graduates' success have only grown (while retaining the school's trademark agility and personal approach to education).
Trinity is accredited by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP), the legally constituted body established to accredit medical programs in the Caribbean. The standards used by the CAAM-HP are based on the United States medical school accreditation program as outlined by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). As such, it is concurrently recognized as a viable academic course in the United States.

Trinity Student Advantage
  • Immediate Clinical Experience
Because of Trinity’s affiliation with Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, a 230-bed teaching hospital, clinical experience begins in the first term and continues through term five at the St. Vincent campus.
  •  Incoming Classes Sized to Match Learning Styles
Trinity limits the number of incoming students in the January and May start terms to maintain smaller classes and provide a lower student to faculty ratio. Students who select to matriculate in September will experience the community and camaraderie that continues to grow along with the student body.
  • Comprehensive USMLE Preparation
The curriculum contains comprehensive USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK preparation. This includes the use of NBME discipline exams at the end of terms 2 and 4, several formative diagnostic exams, and the NBME Comprehensive Bascic Science Exam during Term 5.
During the core clerkships, lecture notes, e-books, self assessment exams, and NBME Subject exams support the course objectives.

Official Recognition, Approvals, and Accreditation
Trinity School of Medicine carries multiple accreditations, recognations, and formal listings, national and international.
Trinity School of Medicine was registered by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines effective April 11, 2008. In 2015, Trinity School of Medicine earned accreditation by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP), the legally constituted international body established to accredit medical programs in the Caribbean, specifically the St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The standards used by the CAAM-HP are based on the United States medical school accreditation program as outlined by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and are recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WMFE) as comparable to US accredited schools. As such, it is concurrently recognized as a viable academic pathway to an MD degree in the United States.

As of September 19th, 2016, CAAM-HP, the legally governing accreditation body of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, has been recognized by theNational Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA, a committee within the US Department of Education) as having accrediting standards comparable to those used to accredit medical programs in the United States.

FROM 2023, STUDENTS GRADUATING FROM A NON ACCREDITED MED SCHOOL IN THE CARIBBEAN MAY NOT BE ENTITLED TO CONTINUE HIS CAREER IN USA.

CAAM-HP accredited schools in St. Vincent have been recognized by the US Department of Education as accredited at a standard comparable to United States medical schools, as so governed by the LCME. Not only is Trinity School of Medicine one of those schools, it is the only CAAM-HP accredited school in the country of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Trinity School of Medicine is recognized by the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) and has been listed in its International Medical Education Directory (IMED) since September 19, 2008.
This listing in FAIMER/IMED and the assignment of a code provides the sanction for Trinity students to register for and take the USMLE Steps 1, Step 2 and Step 3 examinations. Students who successfully complete Step 1 and Step 2 (CK) and (CS), and otherwise meet the requirements for graduation from Trinity, are then authorized by the ECFMG to register for and participate in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) as well as the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS). Trinity is recognized by the Medical Council of India.
Finally, Trinity School of Medicine is compliant with the Education Committee for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) 2023 rule dictating that all international medical graduates be required to have graduated from a school that has been appropriately accredited.

United States Licensing Examinations (USMLE)

USMLE Step 2 – Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Clinical Skills (CS) – taken after completing most of the required or in an early elective.

Trinity School of Medicine Faculty
At Trinity School of Medicine, we provide our students with a scientific foundation for further medical education and equip each student for a lifetime of learning, research, and/or clinical care and community service. Our faculty is comprised of full-time and part-time experts who present the foundations of medicine. In addition, the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and clinical staff have become an integral part of our team and are significant contributors to our success. We are proud to have some of the finest educators from the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and around the globe as our distinguished faculty.

What is the advantage of Trinity's Five-Year Program?
Enrollment in Trinity School of Medicine's 5-Year Program will better prepare you for achieving residency and licensure in the United States. The class size for the first year (3 terms) is limited to 25 students. You will attend classes in a year round format (trimesters) building towards promotion to the MD program in year two.  The curriculum was designed with the same pre-requisites US students complete to offer you a level playing field for Step 1, Step 2 CS and CK and residency. Other advantages include:
  • Instruction from, and interaction with, the MD faculty and students
  • Classes held on the Medical School campus
  • Testing and preparation beginning in the Pre-Medical program to better prepare you for a strong score on NBME and USMLE type exams
  • Earlier acclimation to the island, climate, faculty, and school, prior to the more demanding MD curriculum
  • Opportunities to shadow faculty and students at the hospital, and be mentored by medical students and tutors who have mastered the basic science coursework of the MD program
  • Ability to determine early in your studies if medicine is the right choice for you

Why Baltimore for Clinical Clerkships?

This is where it all began.

Sir William Osler, one of the founders of modern medicine, established the concept of having third and fourth year medical students work with patients in the hospital, pioneering the practice of bedside teaching.  Osler introduced clerkship training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore Maryland.
Today, Trinity School of Medicine students follow the tried and true approach that was established by Sir William Osler and attend weekly Grand Rounds at Johns Hopkins, the same institution where Osler, as physician-in-chief, forever changed the way physicians were taught the practice of medicine. Our network of affiliated teaching hospitals is a testament to that history.

Trinity students attend grand rounds at Johns Hopkins Hospital

Trinity School of Medicine's clinical rotations are noteworthy among Caribbean medical schools. First, our centralized program has room for every student we admit. If our matriculation numbers expand slightly (and we mean slightly, our dedication to small classes is no joke), so expands our clinical rotation slots to ensure we can always accommodate our students--an unfortunate reality of some Caribbean schools is this is not always the case, and is often one of the uncomfortable truths behind their high attrition rates.
Building on that, our core rotations are localized to the Baltimore, MD area. This not only optimizes our students' ability to network and really get to know a physician community, paving the way for future opportunities, it means students are able to put down roots in one "home base" and focus on their studies. This is crucial for student success. With other schools, time and resources have to be diverted to find the next place to live, learn commuting in a new city, finding the necessities of life. Trinity does away with that with its Baltimore program.

Baltimore Regional Hospitals

Baltimore Washintgon Medical Center

Like so many hospitals Trinity works with in Baltimore, the award winning BWMC has a long history of innovation and care. The 293 bed, 700-doctor teaching hospital has been serving the greater Baltimore community for fifty years. Its ED serves 104,000 patients a year, and boasts many noteworthy “centers of excellence,” namely the Aiello Breast Center, Pascal Women's Center, Center for Advanced Fetal Care, Tate Cancer Center, The Vascular Center, Joint Replacement Center, Spine and Neuroscience Center, Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, and University of Maryland centers for diabetes and endocrinology, surgery center, and cardiology.
Bon Secours Hospital
Bon Secours Hospital is the award winning flagship site of a health system that has been a part of the medical community in Baltimore for nearly 100 years. Consistently ranked a top place to work in the city, it is nationally recognized for community immunization impact and technological adoption.
Willoughby Beach Pediatrics
A private pediatrics practice run by one of our department chairs, this is a unique opportunity in medical education: a close, daily working environment with regular patients all designed to properly assess and address the medical complexities of child development.
Providence Hospital (D.C.)
Chartered in 1861 by the Lincoln Administration, Providence Health’s DC hospital is a 408 bed facility with over 500 full time medical providers serving patients on a sprawling 36 acre campus. Fifteen distinct areas of expertise, from behavioral health and primary care, to cardiology and emergent care, provide a unique and versatile environment for any medical student.
Northwest Hospital
A community hospital located in Randallstown (right outside the Baltimore Beltway), prides itself on patient engagement, surgical innovation, and an advanced emergency department means Northwest provides a significant volume and quality of care for its moderate size

Elective Tracks and Residency Success

While Trinity School of Medicine's core rotations are localized to its Baltimore program and there are local electives available, we also offer "elective tracks" in Baltimore, Chicago, and middle Georgia. Why Chicago and middle Georgia? Trinity leadership has deep connections in both locations, but we also want to adhere to the same principles that shape our core rotations: give students a place to call home to let them focus on what matters: their education.

Students are invited, as always, to select their own electives to sharpen their skills and broaden their experiences, but for those that do better in a more structured setting, we provide two other "home base" elective locations in addition to our Baltimore opportunity. These proven, focused elective tracks provide set-electives that are tailored to help guide students into specific residencies.

Chicago Regional Hospitals

  • Hartgrove Hospital
  • Mt. Sinai Hospital
  • Presence Resurrection Medical Center
  • Swedish Covenant
  • Weiss Memorial
  • Westlake Hospital

Students obtain new clinical expertise in the basic clinical disciplines in preparation for advanced training in their residencies. The core clerkship requirements are listed below. The 27 weeks of elective clerkships are strategically chosen to strengthen students residency applications and further broaden and sharpen their skills.

CORE CLINICAL CLERKSHIPS

  • Internal Medicine - 12 Weeks
