Health Insurance
All AUA/AICASA students are required to have health insurance while actively enrolled. AUA/AICASA provides students with a limited benefit injury and sickness plan administered by United Health Care (UHC). Semi-annual premiums are $860.
Students are not required to purchase AUA/AICASA UHC health insurance, and may choose to opt out in favor of Outside Coverage. Outside Coverage is defined as a policy purchased separately, by the student, transacted directly with the student’s insurance carrier, not AUA/AICASA.
Students choosing to opt out of AUA/AICASA provided UHC health insurance in favor of Outside Coverage must now submit a Proof of Insurance Evaluation form in order to be approved for an insurance waiver. Scanned copies of insurance ID cards are NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE as proof of Outside Coverage.
The NEW Proof of Insurance Evaluation form calls for students to affirm minimum benefits as specified on the form through their agent or directly with their insurance carrier (Official Certificates of insurance are acceptable – ask your agent/carrier). For the initial rollout of the NEW POLICY, Proof of Insurance Evaluation forms should be submitted by 8/31/2017. Subsequent due dates for submitting annual Proof of Insurance Evaluation form updates will be published via email and/or student portal alerts in advance of deadlines.
IMPORTANT: STUDENTS IN ATTENDANCE IN ANTIGUA (BAS1 THROUGH BAS5) WHO OPT OUT OF UNIVERSITY PROVIDED (UHC) ACCIDENT/SICKNESS COVERAGE WILL BE REQUIRED TO PURCHASE REPATRIATION/MEDICAL EVACUATION COVERAGE THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY AND UHC. ANNUAL PREMIUM – $148 – NO EXCEPTIONS AND NO PRO-RATING.
Housing and Housing Damages Deposit
New students are required to live in student housing for one semester and must pay a $1,000 housing damages deposit (HDD). Both rent and HDD are due prior to the start of classes along with all other charges for tuition and fees per due dates specified on student tuition billing statements and in billing emails sent 5 to 6 weeks before the start of a new term. The HDD will be held until the first semester housing obligation is met. At the end of the lease — after the student has moved out, the apartment has been inspected, and appropriate loss and damage charges have been posted — the HDD will be credited back to the student’s account.
University Refund Policy
Refunds are given for tuition and academically related fees, only when students officially withdraw and a credit balance condition results from the appropriate tuition adjustment. Refunds are not given for leaves of absence. Official withdrawal forms can be obtained from the campus registrar’s office. Clinical students should contact the New York registrar for the proper forms.Tuition credit adjustments will be given according to the following:
• Official withdrawal prior to the first day of class – Credit adjustment for 100% of tuition.
• Official withdrawal after the start of classes — Prorated credit adjustment for tuition based on the percent of time not attended after the official date of withdrawal. There will be no tuition credits after 60% of the semester has passed.
Other Information

Program
Spartan Health Sciences University, School of Medicine offers a five-year (40 calendar months) academic program leading to the Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.), and is taught on a trimester (four months) schedule.
The curriculum of the University's Doctor of Medicine degree program encompasses a comprehensive course of Basic Sciences, Pre-clinical, bridging curriculum and Clinical Sciences that is five (5) academic years. The trimester period commences in January, May, and September of each year. A student may elect to enter in any one of the three (3) trimesters.
To provide the best possible medical education to the students, the curriculum is under continuous review by the Deans of Basic and Clinical Sciences in conjunction with the faculty, consultants, and Board of Trustees.
The five trimesters of the Basic Science program is an integrated presentation of the following:
- Basic medical sciences include Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Behavioral Sciences, Pharmacology, and Pathology.
- Pre- clinical didactics include General Introduction to Medicine and Physical Diagnosis. Didactic lectures in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics/Gynecology and Surgery.
- A bridging curriculum is introduced for integration of Basic Sciences into Clinical Sciences.
The Clinical Science program consist of five (5) trimesters and is committed to broad exposure in the major clinical disciplines of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Psychiatry.
The Bridging Curriculum consists of series of problem solving exercises and clinical case studies, some in small groups settings, intertwined with the Basic Sciences and Introduction to clinical sciences. Students will apply acquired basic science knowledge to pre- clinical science topics using critical decision making techniques. They will also engage in a sequential process involving:
- Acquisition and presentation of medical knowledge
- Data Interpretation
- Problem Analysis
- Guided and self-directed learning activities
- Application of New Knowledge
All students are required to demonstrate competency in the basic medical sciences before being permitted to begin clinical rotations. Competency is assessed from the University administered and required Comprehensive Exit Examination at the end of Basic Sciences program and passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1.
No student will be eligible for graduation until all academic requirements and financial obligations to the University have been fulfilled.

To understand the cost break up clearly, you must know the cost per trimester. During pre-medical, the cost is USD 4,250 (4 Trimesters). During basic Science, the fees structure is USD 6,250 (5 trimesters). The cost of Clinical rotation (5 Trimesters) is USD 10,500 in USA and in India / Caribbean Island it varies right up to USD 7,000. You can do 3 trimesters in the Caribbean while pursue minimum 2 trimesters in USA.
The total tuition fees to study MD / MS in USA at Spartan Health and Science University would be USD 90,250 for 5.5 years of MD program (Bachelor level). However, there is Scholarship up to 40% (USD 19,300) being allotted to various students based on Merit and Need. HOW TO GET THE SCHOLARSHIP 2017.
The university is offering a limited scholarship for Indian students after 12th to pursue MBBS in USA.
